About Stratford-upon-Avon Choral Society
Stratford-upon-Avon Choral Society is a vibrant choral society, singing the great classical and romantic choral works as well as lesser known and more modern pieces.
We have about 90 singers at present. We rehearse each Monday evening at St Andrew's Church, Shottery which is in Stratford-upon-Avon. We perform three or four concerts per year, with our main season running from September through to Easter. This year we will also have a summer season starting after Easter, and finishing with an informal concert in June. Most of our concerts are held in Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, where William Shakespeare was christened and is buried.
Our repertoire extends from 17th century works to modern day pieces. We sing the great classical choral works by composers such as Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Beethoven, and we explore less known and more modern works as well. We also occasionally commission new works including Time's Delight by Stephen Dodsworth, celebrating the Millennium, and A Shakespeare Cantata by Toby Young, celebrating the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare in 2016.
The choral society welcomes new members as singers or patrons. Interested in knowing more? Please contact our membership secretary at stratford.choral@gmail.com
